Luxury Travel Planning

Emerald Atlas plans private luxury travel — villas, boutique hotels, and hard-to-reach experiences — built around how you actually like to travel rather than a published package. Through preferred partner programs, eligible reservations may include room upgrades when available, daily breakfast, a property credit, and early check-in or late checkout. Planning is offered as either a flat-fee custom itinerary or percentage-based full booking support.

Based in Columbus, Ohio. Serving travelers nationwide.

What luxury actually means here

Luxury travel has been flattened into a price band. We treat it as a standard of attention. A five-hundred-dollar room in the right part of Lisbon, booked with the right corner assignment and a restaurant table you could not have gotten yourself, is a more luxurious experience than a two-thousand-dollar suite in a property that does not know your name.

So we do not start with a budget bracket. We start with what you want the days to feel like. Some clients want absolute privacy and a house with staff. Others want a small hotel where the bar staff remembers their drink by the second night. Those are different trips, and the difference is not money.

What is consistent is the standard: nothing generic, nothing left to chance on arrival day, and no detail you had to chase down yourself.

Preferred partner amenities — and what they're actually worth

Emerald Atlas books through preferred partner programs with a curated network of hotels, villa companies, and destination specialists. When a property participates, our clients may receive a defined amenity package alongside the selected rate.

  • Room upgrade at check-in, subject to availability

Not a promise of a suite — a documented priority position when upgrades are allocated, which is a materially different thing from hoping at the desk.

  • Daily breakfast for two

On a seven-night stay this is frequently worth more than five hundred dollars, and it removes the small daily friction of deciding where to eat before you are awake.

  • A property credit

Typically one hundred dollars, applied to spa, dining, or resort charges depending on the property's terms.

  • Early check-in and late checkout when available

The two amenities clients underrate most, and the two that most change how an arrival and departure day feel.

  • A named contact at the property

Your reservation arrives flagged with context — anniversary, dietary needs, arrival time — rather than as an anonymous line in a system.

Villas, private residences, and staffed houses

For groups, celebrations, and longer stays, a private residence often outperforms a hotel — but the villa market is where the gap between listing photography and reality is widest. We work with established villa companies and known local operators rather than open marketplaces, because the recourse when something is wrong is entirely different.

Practically, that means we verify what is actually included: whether staff is daily or on-call, whether the pool is heated and from what date, how far the nearest town genuinely is, and whether the road up is a road or a track. We also handle the pieces that make a villa stay feel serviced rather than self-catered — a pre-arrival grocery stock, a private chef for two of the seven nights, a driver on call.

Access, and being honest about it

Access is the most oversold word in this industry. Here is what is true: through partner relationships and on-the-ground contacts, we can regularly secure restaurant tables that are not on the public booking platform, after-hours or before-hours access at certain museums and sites, private guides who do not advertise, and rooms held back from general inventory.

Here is what is also true: nobody can get you a table at every restaurant on any date, and an advisor who says otherwise is selling. We tell you which requests are likely, which are possible with lead time, and which are not going to happen — before you build an expectation around them.

Destinations and design

Our luxury work concentrates in Europe — Italy, Portugal, Greece, France, and Spain — along with the Caribbean, safari destinations in eastern and southern Africa, and Japan. In each, the value of an advisor is the same: knowing which specific property, which specific room, and which specific week.

A trip is designed as a sequence, not a list. We think about the shape of it — where the intensity sits, where the recovery days go, how the last two days are structured so you come home rested rather than depleted. That sequencing is most of the craft, and it is invisible when it is done well.

Common questions

Luxury Travel Planning: questions we're asked most

Emerald Atlas charges for planning expertise. A custom itinerary you book yourself has a flat fee; full booking support uses a percentage-based fee. Eligible preferred-partner reservations may also include amenities, and your planning fee is confirmed in writing before work begins.
Breakfast and the property credit are contractual when the property participates in the program. Room upgrades and early check-in are always subject to availability — no honest advisor guarantees them. What is guaranteed is that your reservation is positioned for them rather than invisible.
There is no formal minimum, but the value we add scales with complexity. For a single two-night domestic hotel stay, you likely do not need us. For a week or more, multiple destinations, a villa, a celebration, or anything international, the difference is substantial.
Six to twelve months for peak-season Europe, villas, and safari. Safari camps and the best villas in July and August are frequently gone a year out. Shoulder season and off-peak travel can be arranged in three to four months comfortably.
Yes, and it is some of our favorite work. Celebrations are flagged with every property and partner in advance, which is how the small unannounced touches happen. Tell us the occasion early — the acknowledgment has to be arranged, not requested at check-in.
